ROME WILL HOST AGAIN THE 2020 EDITION OF THE WORLD TOURISM EVENT FROM 24 TO 26 SEPTEMBER 2020

15 January 2020

From 24th to 26th September 2020, the World Tourism Event for Unesco Cities and Sites will be held again in Rome for the second consecutive year, after the successful last edition. It will be hosted by the modern cultural hub WEGIL, located in the heart of Trastevere.

Born from the former Gil, the building designed in 1933 by architect Luigi Moretti, the new WEGIL is characterized not only by its modernity and innovation, but also by the strong identity of centre of cultural, artistic, tourist and  food and wine excellences of the territory.

Owned by Regione Lazio and managed by the regional company LazioCrea, WEGIL already in the name – We as opposed to the Ego of everyday life – suggests its being available to the city.

The World Heritage sites participating in the exhibition will therefore be hosted in this innovative and functional space, easily accessible by the public, to show and promote their heritage and a more conscious and responsible cultural tourism.

The b2b Workshop, reserved to operators, where tourism supply and demand meet, this year will take place for the first time in online video call mode on Thursday 24 September. The workshop is a great opportunity to promote slow, emotional and conscious travel aimed at enhancing the cultural tourism excellence of UNESCO sites.

The b2b Workshop, reserved to operators, where tourism supply and demand directly meet, this year will be held on Saturday 26th September, the last day of the event.

The aim of the Exhibition is not only to promote and give visibility to Unesco cities and sites, but also to offer an opportunity for reflection and discussion on tourism policies, starting from the Unesco brand, to understand what its future may be and the strategies to continue in the development of an effective enhancement and sustainable promotion of the material and immaterial cultural offer also in terms of growth of the tourism economy.

The program of the event includes the exhibition where visitors will have the possibility to know and appreciate the Unesco sites and get all information, and a scientific program with interesting conferences and in-depth meetings for schools, travel agencies and the large public interested in tourism promotion.

Another important aspect of the WTE is the communication, with the presence of the Italian and foreign press specialized in  in the promotion of culture and tourism with particular attention to Unesco sites.

The World Tourism Event is organized by M&C Marketing Consulting in collaboration with Regione Lazio and sponsored by UNESCO Italian Committee, MIBACT and the Association of Italian World Heritage.
